Brent A. Miller is a Senior Technical Staff Member and Intellectual Property Solutions Engineer in IBM’s Research/Corporate Headquarters organization, which is responsible for all IBM patent and technology licensing. He currently is a technical leader for the patent licensing team.

Previously at IBM, Mr. Miller served as Chief Architect for the Tivoli brand’s autonomic computing business unit; he also led several software development teams in pervasive computing, printers, mobile computers and network computing. Mr. Miller has published numerous papers and holds many patents in these areas. He was designated an IBM Lifetime Master Inventor in 2016.

Brent has also been involved in several industry standards initiatives. He held technical leadership positions in the OASIS standards body, Bluetooth Special Interest Group, Open Services Gateway Initiative and Universal Plug and Play Forum. He is principal author of the book, Bluetooth Revealed and a contributing author to the Internet Encyclopedia, Handbook of Computer Networks and Handbook of Information Security.

Mr. Miller holds a B.S. in Computer and Information Science from The Ohio State University. He is an active community volunteer, having completed the Town of Cary (NC) School of Government; served two terms on the Cary Planning & Zoning Board and currently is in his third year as Chair of the Cary Historic Preservation Commission. He also has volunteered on the boards of directors for Cary Area Emergency Medical Services and the Friends of the Page-Walker (a community historic preservation organization).
