what is machine learning and deep learning ?

Christophe Menichetti

Abstract

Machine learning has been getting wide acceptance in the industry, and new use cases pop up all the time. Self driving cars, social media facial recognition, Amazon Echo, and credit card fraud detection are just few examples of machine learning. Do you know how it works?

If you think machine learning enables a system to think, reason, and build hypothesis, you have a gap.

If you think machine learning simply refers to using a data set to build a model and then using the model to score, you have a gap.

If you think machine learning comes from a few drunken professors writing some fancy mathematical equations on napkins, you have a gap.

On a serious note, machine learning is a very complex subject. This presentation simplifies the concept and shows you the technologies under the hood that constitute machine learning. Mathematics behind the theories is reduced to a minimum in this talk. After this presentation, you will be comfortable in talking to data scientists about machine learning, and will use terms such as supervised learning, feature engineering, and gradient descent with confidence in your conversations.
