As part of IBM Research and IBM Global University Programs, in the role of Head of Medical and Life Science Academia, M. Sylvester is responsible for supporting academic medical and life science universities (medical, nursing, and pharmacy) as they evolve and achieve true healthcare transformation leveraging emerging technology. The goal is to help produce tech-savvy physicians, nurses, and pharmacists who will have the competence and confidence to lead and help healthcare transform globally. Some of the hot emerging technologies include: Cloud Computing, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Internet of Things, Quantum, Cybersecurity, and the innovative philosophy: Design Thinking. All of which are disruptive in the healthcare space.
M. Sylvester has 20+ years of experience in healthcare and life sciences having worked for Merck & Co, Inc. and Boehringer Ingelheim, Inc. Additionally, she worked for Ricoh USA setting the healthcare and life science strategy for top accounts and defining new services as Ricoh transformed into a services-led organization. M. Sylvester has a passion for disruptive people, technology, and processes. She holds 3 bachelor’s degrees (Chemistry, Marketing & Management), an MBA (Pharmaceutical Marketing), and a PhD (Organizational Development). Additionally, she holds several certifications: Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Change Management/Leadership, Digital Strategy, Data Science in Healthcare & AI in Healthcare (in process).
She is passionate about leading initiatives that have a lasting impact and drive real value in healthcare.
